Job search engines provide convenience to both employers and job seekers. Employers do not have to advertise in newspapers and community classifieds to be able to reach job seekers anymore. Conversely, those looking for jobs are given the chance to apply for as much as 20 positions without batting an eyelash. With this convenience in hand, employers are able to add new positions without any expense, which then gives seekers more options to explore.
But although job search engines offer convenience, not all of them guarantee good results. Some job search engines of course work better than others. There are those that have in their database more job sites, companies and locations. To be able to get the best list of openings, you might as well use only the more known job search engines.
It is also the work of job search engines to direct you to the websites of specific companies. If you already have decided that you want to work for 'this' company, you can use job search engines as well to locate its site.
The biggest disadvantage with job search engines is they may "unwittingly" direct you to scammers. However, this should not totally discourage you into using such sites as, fraudulent job listings are possible to identify. The indications that a job listing is a scam include incorrect grammar, phone area code not matching the given address, and far-to-large salary.
